Located 1000 km (600 miles) from the Ecuadorian mainland, the only practical way to travel to the Galapagos Islands is by flying. There are two principal airports that accomodate passenger jets: one at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal island, and the other on Baltra island, which serves the town of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz. Galapagos flights start from $413 during the low season depending on the point of departure, which is either Quito or Guayaquil.
Puerto Villamil on Isabela island has an airstrip for light aircraft. A local company operates charter flights between the islands.
