Galapagos Islands, though located around the equator, have a moderate climate and anytime is good for a visit. But climate varies a lot and is influenced by the cold Humboldt Current, and occasionally by the El Nino phenomenon that causes temperatures to rise and brings heavy rains. There are broadly two seasons - the cold/dry season from June through November and the warm/wet season from December through May.

December through May is warm and at times muggy with lots of sun. It is also the rainy season, so heavy showers or at least drizzles can be expected towards the evenings. Average temperatures in the Galapagos Islands range from 26 °C to 30 °C and humidity is high. The warm waters and calm seas make conditions ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

June through November see cool misty conditions in the islands. The Humboldt Current that travels up from the Antarctic waters during this time brings cold water and cold winds to the islands. A misty drizzle called garua is frequent in this season, though rain is a rarity. Average temperatures range from 20 °C to 24 °C in the daytime, while nights are even cooler. The seas are rougher, particularly from July to October, and seasickness is common among travellers. For divers who are willing to take on the cold waters, this is the best time to visit the Galapagos Islands as marine life is abundant. Birds are plenty too, and the albatross and penguins are quite commonly sighted.
