Mr. Carlos Pacheco and family

The Wooden House belongs to Mr. Carlos Pacheco and his family, who are native to the Galapagos Islands. Carlos started in the tourism industry 25 years ago, when he began to operate the Pato Feo boat.  As time passed, he continued to improve his services to offer a complete experience to his customers. As a result, this year he and his family bought and renovated the Wooden House.

The hotel is family-managed to ensure that guests receive personalised service.

Caring for Destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

The Wooden House focuses on trying to reduce the impact of tourism on the Galapagos' natural environment by adopting sustainable practices.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

The owners use biodegradable cleaning products and toiletries, saving energy with the use of energy-saving bulbs and by conserving water consumption.

Since the hotel is located on the main street near a sandy beach, the staff must regularly sprinkle water to avoid dust clouds; therefore they have installed a water pump that takes water from the sea at high tide.

When the hotel has employment vacancies, they give preference to local residents from Isabela.
