At the front of the hotel waves lap at the foot of the large deck that affords wide open views across Academy Bay. Imagine enjoying lunch there as pelicans, frigate birds and blue-footed boobies fish in front of you, or sipping a drink from the bar as you witness another stunning sunset, or dining as the lights of anchored yachts dance on the harbour. Just the thought of it is relaxing, right?
The deck and terrace wrap around the main building, which houses the indoor cafe, kitchen and reception area. This building exudes Galapagos character with lava and driftwood incorporated into the construction.
The original hotel rooms are a number of bungalows scattered across the property behind the restaurant and bar. A new building towards the rear of the property has added nine rooms on three levels to bring the total number of rooms to sixteen.
The Angermeyer Waterfront Inn is located on Punta Estrada near the entrance to Puerto Ayora harbour. The hotel is easily reached by water taxi from the main public wharf in town. The ride takes about 5 minutes and costs 60 cents during the day and $1 at night.
The town of Puerto Ayora can be reached either by flying to Baltra airport and then travelling overland, or by speedboat from one of the other islands. There are several flights a day from the cities of Quito or Guayaquil on the Ecuadorian mainland as well as inter-island flights each day from both Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (San Cristobal island) and Puerto Villamil (Isabela island). The daily speedboat services come from both Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and Puerto Villamil.
Arriving by air:
On arrival at Baltra airport, take a bus provided by the airlines to the Itabaca Channel (10 minutes, free of charge). Take the ferry to cross the channel to Santa Cruz island (5 minutes, 80 cents). From the Santa Cruz dock take a bus ($1.80, 40 passengers) or a taxi ($18 total, maximum 4 passengers). The trip to Puerto Ayora takes about an hour by bus or 40 minutes by taxi. Once you arrive in Puerto Ayora walk about 1 minute to the main public wharf and take a water taxi to Angermeyer Waterfront Inn. The water taxi takes about 5 minutes, costs 60 cents and will take you right to the hotel's private wharf.
